We support the Levy for Learning

As community residents, parents, retirees, and taxpayers, we believe passage of the Westonka School District's Levy for Learning is essential for the continued success of our local public schools. We are united in our support of strong Westonka schools that consistently deliver outstanding performance and excellent return on taxpayer investment, all for the lowest tax cost of any school district in Hennepin County.

The levy request is all about learning and the results coming out of Westonka classrooms. It's not about any previous ideas regarding "Bonds for Buildings." A Levy for Learning pays for what happens in the classroom--and that's what we care about most.

Our schools deliver high quality

Westonka has been among the state's highest-performing school districts for five consecutive years. Westonka is one of only four school districts in Hennepin County (Westonka, Edina, Wayzata, St. Anthony-New Brighton) that had 100% of its schools achieve Adequate Yearly Progress under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Standard & Poor's, through its independent expert school evaluation service, named Westonka one of 22 "academic outperformers" in the state in 2006, with the highest reading and math proficiency ratings of all districts so recognized.

Our schools deliver value for the taxpayer dollar

According to Standard & Poor's, Westonka's "educational return on taxpayer investment" was higher than any other school district in Hennepin or Ramsey Counties in 2005. The new ratings for 2006 by SchoolDataDirect show Westonka in the Top Five in both counties.

Children in our community are taught by talented, experienced faculty

Nearly 75% of Westonka's teachers hold master's degrees or higher.

Higher performance, lowest taxes

While Westonka delivers higher performance than other districts, it also has the lowest school taxes in Hennepin County and among our neighbors, which is evidence of well-managed schools. Use the online tax calculator to estimate the proposed levy increase on your home.
